Regulatory Workforce Competency Mapping for National Regulatory Authorities in the Asia Region

Many National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) in the Asia region (LMICs) do not possess adequately structured and well-resourced regulatory frameworks to promote optimal access to medical products. In particular, NRAs may not have regulatory personnel with the appropriate competencies to effectively perform regulatory functions. Regulatory competency mapping can help NRAs address competency shortfalls and improve regulatory capacity.  

This technical brief describes MTaPS’ approach to mapping NRA competencies in Bangladesh, Nepal, and the Philippines, and the capacity strengthening approaches to build regulatory capacity of NRAs at the institutional and individual levels.
